Leader of Border Militia Group Facing Federal Weapons Charges

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — One of the leaders of a group of volunteer border enforcers is facing federal weapons charges standing accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives arrested Kevin Lindell “KC” Massey on Monday at a local motel; on Tuesday Massey went before U.S. Magistrate Ronald Morgan who ordered he be held without bond.

Massey one of the leaders of Camp Lone Star, a group of volunteers who set up a camp in private property along the Rio Grande  looking to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and drug traffickers. Since their arrival over the summer, Massey has been the fourth member of the group to have problems with law enforcement.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, in August John Forrester, another member of the group came under fire when a member of the U.S. Border Patrol mistook him for an armed cartel member. Soon after the shooting, Forrester’s right to own a weapon came into question since he had been charged with burglary 15 years ago.

While Forrester was not charged criminally in the case, the criminal complaint filed against Massey has other names blacked out pointing to future arrests.

According to court records obtained by Breitbart Texas, at the time of Forrester’s shooting, Massey had an AK-47 rifle and a .45 caliber handgun even though he had prior felony convictions. Massey had been convicted of burglary in 1985 and then served 5 years in prison following a second burglary in 1988, court records show.

In September, authorities arrested group members Steven Kurt Brooks and Richard Coonie Smith after Brooks left a 9mm handgun at a convenience store restroom. Since Brooks did not have a conceal carry license he could not carry a weapon inside the store, that led to the Smith’s arrest when he tried to claim the weapon was his but surveillance video from the store showed otherwise.
