One Dead, Six Shot in Separate Chicago Shootings

As subzero temperatures hit Chicago, the violence continues. Between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening one was killed and six others were shot in the Windy City.

Three of those involved in the violence were teenagers, one of whom died, police report.

On Friday evening, 17-year-old Walter L. Wright was shot as he stood on a sidewalk in the city’s south side Gage Park neighborhood. Wright, a known gang member, was shot multiple times. One of the wounds was a fatal shot to the chest.

Early Saturday morning, a 20-year-old man and two teens were shot as they sat in a van in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The three were shot at by unknown parties in a car driving down West Lake Street.

There was at least one other drive by shooting during the period.

Thus far this year, in the 17 short days of the first month of 2015, 70 have been shot. Thirteen of those were fatalities.
