Target’s latest motto is “expect more, pay less.” But now, in one Chicago store, Target customers just might be allowed to drink more while they are paying less with a new drink-while-you-shop service.

The national department store chain is opening a new location near Navy Pier, just north of Chicago’s downtown Loop area where package liquor will be sold. But that isn’t all. The store also plans to add a bar section.

Chicago’s ABC affiliate reported that the new Target location has applied for two liquor licenses, one for package sales and the other for the bar.

Apparently the store expects that Target shoppers will be able to drink as they shop.

ABC also notes that two other local stores also serve alcohol to shoppers as they browse.

Maybe this isn’t a big surprise. Chicago has always had a reputation for the juice—Al Capone aside. Even last year, GQ magazine made Chicago its “top drinking city.”
