Arizona Sheriff Urges County Residents to ‘Arm Themselves’ to Fight Terrorism

On December 12 Sheriff Paul Babeu urged residents to get a get, train with it, and carry it to help fight terrorism.

Babeu is Sheriff of Pinal County, Arizona.

According to 3 TV, Babeu issued the call for citizens to “arm themselves” from Caswells Shooting Range in Mesa, AZ.

Countering the push for more gun control in the wake of Paris and San Bernardino, Babeu advised citizens to take a different route and arm themselves so they can face down threats until police arrive. He said, “The answer is not to disarm American citizens. This is our freedom to carry a weapon. It’s to be smart about this. Get training. Be armed to protect yourself, protect your family until we can get there.”

By urging citizens to arm themselves, Babeu joins Sheriff Joe Arpaio–sheriff of neighboring Maricopa County–who not only wants concealed permit holders to be armed to fight terrorism but also to take a mass shooter if need be. Arpaio said, “I’m just talking about the areas where you have large crowds and someone pulls out the gun and starts shooting. Maybe somebody with a concealed weapon takes the guy down.”

Other law enforcement officials calling for citizens to arm themselves include Police Chief Randy Kennedy (Hughes Springs, TX), Sheriff David Cole (Steuben County, NY,), Sheriff Michael A. Helmig (Boone County, KY), Sheriff Paul J. Van Blarcum (Ulster County, NY), and Sheriff Wayne Ivey (Brevard County, FL).
