Indiana Governor Mike Pence joined Breitbart Daily News host Stephen K. Bannon on Sirius XM to discuss the recent decision by Carrier, a unit of United Technologies Corp, to move approximately 2,100 jobs from Indiana to Mexico, even though the company had pocketed both federal and state dollars for job training in the past two years, per RTV6 ABC in Indianapolis.
Pence told Bannon: “If we can sit down with this company with a bi-partisan group, we’re going to do it.”
Pence has already said he will review Carrier’s decision, while pointing out to Bannon that Carrier seems to be the “exception to the rule” in Indiana. Said Pence:
We have a growing economy. Since I became Governor we’ve been cutting taxes, holding the line on regulations and promoting economic freedom in ways that you have seen a 140,000 net new jobs – $5 billion just about in investments last year, we set a new record for total deals. Indiana’s economy is on the move but unfortunately, this long-standing company is on the move to Mexico.
Pence stated he would protect taxpayers and that his administration has already discontinued additional monies that were going to be going to the company for training purposes. Ultimately, Pence concluded that given Indiana’s Pro-business environment, “this is an indictment of the high taxes, regulations and big government policies coming out of Washington, D.C. and we’ve got to have change starting this November in the leadership in Washington, D.C. that will make Indiana and all of America more competitive on the global stage.”
Along with continuing to review any incentives that may have gone Carrier’s way, Pence was also adamant that his administration will do everything in its power to assist any displaced workers to find new jobs in what he termed Indiana’s growing economy.
Gov. Pence said he has instructed the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to review all incentive contracts previously offered to Carrier and United Technologies to evaluate options to get back taxpayer money.
