Since January 1, gun-controlled Chicago has had more homicides than Los Angeles and New York combined.

Homicides in Chicago are “up nearly 50 percent over last year.”

According to NBC News, the dangers of Chicago gun violence were highlighted again over the Fourth of July weekend, with 50 people shot, 8 fatally. Moreover, three of the shooting victims were children.

Two of the children were shot while playing at a Fourth of July family celebration. One of the children was eight years old, the other was five. The third child – shot at a different location – was 11-years old.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Fourth of July weekend shootings put Chicago at 2,026 shooting victims for the year. Chicago had 2,988 shooting victims for the whole of 2015.

It is important to remember Chicago has an “assault weapons” ban, a “violence tax,” and strict limitations on the number of gun stores and the locations of said stores. They also have a state-imposed waiting period that requires citizens to wait 24 hours between the purchase of a long gun and actually being allowed to take possession of it. Citizens who buy handguns have to wait 72 hours, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

These gun control measures appear to correlate with skyrocketing murder rates in Chicago.
