In a new interview with the Daily Beast, director Spike Lee compares Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

While discussing his upcoming film Chi-Raq earlier this week, the director was asked his opinion of the GOP frontrunner, who said last month he would consider monitoring and closing some American mosques after November’s Paris terror attacks.

The interviewer, Marlow Stern, commented, “Since the 9/11 attacks, out of the 780,000-plus refugees that have been let into the U.S., only three have been linked to terrorism.”

Lee replied, “But you know what Trump’s saying: ‘They’re thinking about it! [terrorism]’”

Trump’s statement about considering closing mosques with ties to radical Islam prompted Lee to compare the candidate to fascist dictators Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

“That’s like the Nazis. That’s like Hitler, Mussolini, the Axis Powers. You can’t do that!” he said.

Trump told MSNBC after the Nov. 13 Paris terror attacks that the United States should “watch and study” some mosques. The Republican frontrunner also said he would entertain the idea of closing some of them.
