The 73rd annual Golden Globe awards witnessed a new level of good guys with guns–handguns, tactical gear, and AR-15s with “high capacity” magazines–moving through the awards venue at the Beverly Hilton and guarding the parameter for a gaggle of anti-gun celebrities gathered inside.

Los Angeles Times photojournalist Allen Schaben tweeted begin tweeting about the heightened presence of good guys with guns around 2:30 p.m.

From inside the event, Janic Min–who is co-president of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group–tweeted, “First time I’ve ever seen security with machine guns walking [at the] Golden Globes.”

And KSL5TV reporter Ashley Kewish tweeted a photo of the kind of armored vehicles the LAPD were driving around the venue.

Who were all these good guys with handguns, AR-15s, “high capacity” magazines, and armored vehicles protecting? They were protecting some of the most anti-gun celebrities in Hollywood. In other words, celebrities like Amy Schumer–who spent the fall pushing gun control with her cousin Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and who attended President Obama’s January 5th announcement of executive gun control, according to The Hill.

Other gun control celebrities attending the Golden Globes included Eva Longoria, Jason Schwartzmann, director Tom McCarthy, and writer Josh Singer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Singer took time on the red carpet to praise Obama for signing the executive gun control, then immediately lamented that the controls do not go far enough. Singer said, “Obama should do more and go further.”

And The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that, “Anonymous Content partner Steve Golin” concurred that Obama’s actions do not go far enough. Golin added, “But if it mitigates it a little bit, I don’t know how anyone can object to it. People don’t need any kind of gun that is semi-automatic. It’s crazy.”

Note – Golin is saying “people don’t need any king of gun that is a semi-automatic” as he stands safely ensconced behind an untold number of security personnel with semi-automatic handguns and AR-15s with “high capacity” magazines.

Orange is the New Black’s Natasha Lyonne said:

It’s a black and white issue. What’s going on in our country has become so out of control, and when people decide to shoot up movie theaters it does become a personal issue for our business. Obviously this is an insane problem. We are past the tipping point of everybody getting a gun being a good idea. We are not mature enough to handle that privilege … until people can figure out how to stop shooting people.

Lyonne said these things at a venue where she benefited not only from good guys with guns, but also good guys with guns in armored vehicles.

And there were other gun control celebrities who attended the Golden Globes and benefited from good guys with guns the way average American families are often denied the right to do. Those gun control celebrities include Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, The Hunger Games’s Julianne Moore, and HBO Vinyl’s Olivia Wilde, among others.

Hamm, Moore, and Wilde signed a “thank you” letter to Obama last week, expressing their gratitude for his decision to act without Congress and institute more gun control.
