Hillary Clinton Refers To Terror Attack As ‘Gun Violence’

During a June 3 campaign stop in San Bernardino, Hillary Clinton referred to the December 2 terror attack as “gun violence,” and pledged anew to “take on the gun lobby.”

On December 2 two Muslim attackers–Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik–shot and killed 14 co-workers during a company Christmas party. They carried long guns and handguns, as well as one bomb. Following the incident, police discovered more bombs and bomb making parts in the couple’s residence.

The terrorist ties and motivations in the case were so evident that two days after the attack — on December 4 — the New York Times reported that the FBI was treating the act as terrorism. FBI director James Comey said, “The investigation has so far developed indications of radicalization by the killers, and of potential inspiration by foreign terrorist organizations.”

But gun control is a central tenet of the Clinton campaign, and more “gun violence” helps make a stronger case for more gun control. Denying that the San Bernardino attack was terrorism also enables Clinton to continue to ignore radical Islam — a term she refuses even to utter.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Clinton looked at attendees of the San Bernardino rally and said, “You here in this beautiful city know the horrors, the losses associated with gun violence are just unimaginable.” She then segued into promises of fighting “the gun lobby.”

It should be noted that “the gun lobby” does not hold a lot of sway in California, a state in which Democrats have already enacted some of the most stringent gun controls in the country. They have universal background checks, firearm registration laws, and firearm confiscation laws, among many other laws.

Moreover, the handguns used in the San Bernardino attack were purchased via a background check. The rifles used were purchased via a background check by a third party — an act that is referred to as a “straw purchase” and which is already illegal.

Two days after Clinton’s speech in San Bernardino, she told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that the government has “a right” to regulate the Second Amendment.
