Ndlovu 'out of danger' as brother dies – report

Former Zimbabwe international Peter Ndlovu was “out of danger” after suffering a serious injury in a car crash, his ex-manager said Sunday.

But it was reported that the 39-year-old’s brother Adam had died in the accident which happened as they were travelling near Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls.

“Peter is now out of danger. He is conscious and is communicating,” Ndlovu’s former manager Winston Makamure told the BBC.

“He has internal injuries, head injuries, broken ribs and a broken leg.”

Media reports claimed that the former Coventry and Birmingham striker’s elder brother Adam, also a former professional, was killed in the crash. A female passenger was also believed to have died in the accident.

Ndlovu played 100 times for Zimbabwe while featuring for Coventry City, Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United in a 13-year stay in England.

“Coventry City Football Club is saddened to hear of a tragic road accident in Zimbabwe that has left former striker Peter Ndlovu in a critical condition and claimed the life of his brother Adam,” said a Coventry statement.

“It has been reported that both were travelling from an away match between Chicken Inn FC and a local side when Ndlovu’s car suffered a tyre blow-out which caused the car to veer off the road 20km outside Victoria Falls.”

Ndlovu scored 39 goals in 176 appearances for Coventry.
