Police on Friday shot dead a man wielding a machete outside a bank in Canada’s largest city, Toronto.
Just before 1 p.m. local time (1700 GMT) officers responded to calls about a “man armed with a machete” in an east-side neighborhood, police said in a Twitter message.
The suspect, believed to be in his 50s, was shot by police outside a TD Bank branch and immediately taken to hospital, where public broadcaster CBC said he died. No other information has so far been released.
It was the 43rd time since 2004 that Toronto police have tangled with a machete-wielding suspect, usually in robbery cases.
