The White House said Tuesday that President Barack Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai support the idea of holding talks with the Taliban in the Islamist group’s Qatar office.
In a phone call, the two leaders “reiterated their support for an office in Doha for the purpose of negotiations between the High Peace Council and authorized representatives of the Taliban,” it said in a statement.
