Togo reach Africa Cup last eight for first time

Togo reached the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals for the first time after drawing 1-1 with Tunisia Wednesday.

Tunisia had a great chance to finish second in Group D — won by Ivory Coast last Saturday — when awarded a late penalty but Khaled Mouelhi struck the post having scored from an early spot kick.

Serge Gakpe gave the Sparrow Hawks the lead on 13 minutes and their reward is a last-eight showdown with fellow west Africans Burkina Faso Sunday in this north-eastern city.

Ivory Coast, showing nine changes from the team that trounced Tunisia four days ago, came from two goals behind against already-eliminated Algeria to draw 2-2 in Rustenburg.
