Police have released without charge a 65-year-old man who was arrested in February as part of the investigation into historical sexual offences.
The man was detained at a south London address on suspicion of sexual offences under Operation Yewtree, the investigation sparked by the abuse claims against late DJ Jimmy Savile.
But Metropolitan Police on Monday conceded there was not enough evidence to prosecute.
“The decision was made by the police that there was insufficient evidence to proceed,” said a statement.
“There was early investigative consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, but in accordance with the Director of Public Prosecution’s guidance on charging the police did not submit the case for full CPS advice to decide the outcome,” it added.
The man was arrested under the strand of the investigation termed ‘others’.
