T-wolves drop Howard after knee injury revealed

Minnesota swingman Josh Howard, injured last week in a victory over New Orleans, was waived by the Timberwolves on Thursday after an MRI exam revealed a season-ending right knee injury.

A torn anterior cruciate ligament will sideline Howard for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season.

“It’s unfortunate to see Josh’s season come to an abrupt end due to injury,” said Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn. “Josh was a consummate professional and important contributor to our team in his short time with us and we wish him the best with his recovery.”

Howard signed with Minnesota as a free agent on November 16 and averaged 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 11 games for the Timberwolves this season.

At 12-11, the Timberwolves are contending for the playoffs after missing out for the past eight seasons.
