Vice President Joe Biden has cancelled a trip to Panama scheduled for next week, the White House said Thursday.
The White House did not say why the trip was dropped, but Panama’s President Ricardo Martinelli said Biden told him it was “because of the problems with Syria.”
“We’ll have to find him another date,” Martinelli said in an interview with Telemetro, a Panamanian television channel.
Biden, however, is keeping a visit to Mexico next week on his agenda, the White House said.
He will meet with Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto to underscore US commitment to deepening economic ties between the two neighbors.
The exact date of the trip has not been announced by the White House.
