Greece coach Fernando Santos on Friday named four uncapped players in his 22-man squad for the November 14 friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin.
Wearing the national team colours for the first time will be 21-year-old Panionios goalkeeper Kostas Peristeridis, 18-year-old PAOK defender Kostas Stafylidis, 21-year-old Roma midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis and 21-year-old Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas.
Left out were former Panathinaikos midfielder Kostas Katsouranis who does not have a team, Fulham midfielder Giorgos Karagounis, Levante striker Fanis Gekas and PAOK midfielder Giorgos Fotakis.
“This is a friendly match at a time when an official match is quite far away. It is an opportunity for me to see some things from certain new players,” Santos said.
He said Katsouranis and Karagounis are “regular members of the team and this does not change. I decided for this friendly to try out other players. Nothing more.”
