Steelers delay trip for Sunday game after storm

The Pittsburgh Steelers have changed their travel plans for Sunday’s National Football League road game at the New York Giants in the wake of the devastation from Hurricane Sandy.

The Steelers announced on Thursday on Twitter that they will not travel until the day of the game because of the damage the killer superstorm caused in the New York area.

Many people in the region remain without electricity and flood damage is heavy in coastal areas.

The Steelers will fly into Newark, New Jersey, and dine at a nearby restaurant before taking a bus to the Giants’ stadium for the afternoon contest.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the team’s planned hotel remains without electricity and that no other hotel in the area could handle the club.

At 4-3, the Steelers are one game behind pace-setter Baltimore in the AFC North division while the Giants, 6-2, lead the NFC East division.
