Canadian hydro worker dies in Sandy cleanup

A Canadian hydro (electric power) worker was killed Wednesday morning while repairing damage to power lines in the Ontario town of Sarnia, caused by powerful storm Sandy.

William Lin, spokesman for the Ontario Ministry of Labor, told AFP the worker from Bluewater Power “was electrocuted while tending to downed power lines.”

The ministry is investigating, he said.

According to police, the accident occurred on a residential street near the Lake Huron shoreline at around 10:15 a.m. (1415 GMT).

The worker’s death is the second in Canada linked to Sandy. A Toronto woman was struck and killed by flying debris as winds were clocked at more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour Monday evening.
