Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Britain’s former premier Gordon Brown will take part in an Indian edition of the World Economic Forum (WEF), organisers said Thursday.
Top executives from companies such as Nestle, Infosys and KPMG will also join the forum on the outskirts of New Delhi from November 7-8, which will focus on the country’s economic and social development.
Sessions will be devoted to topics ranging from economic growth, food security and the prevention of disease to sexual inequality.
“The WEF wanted to pay recognition to the fact that India has a growing global role,” Sushant Palakurthi Rao, WEF’s director for Asia, told a press conference.
“The summit needs to be about India in the world, (focusing) not only on economy but also on society, culture and development.”
WEF is best known as the host of the annual forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos every January. But it has organised similar events in Asia and the Middle East.
