Greater Manchester police investigating three separate claims of sexual abuse have arrested the former chauffeur and housemate of disgraced television presenter Jimmy Savile.
The force held Ray Teret, 71, and another man, aged 61, but stressed the arrests were not linked to the probe into claims of sexual abuse against the late star.
Detective Inspector Simon Davies, of the Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “On Thursday 8 November 2012, a 71-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape following a warrant at an address in Altrincham.
“The arrest follows an investigation by the Serious Sexual Offences Unit into three separate allegations of historic sexual abuse which have been reported to Greater Manchester Police since 28 October 2012.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that this is not an investigation into the late Jimmy Savile, nor do any of the allegations relate to any involvement by Savile.”
Teret lived with Savile in a run-down apartment in Salford in the sixties and served as his driver and support DJ.
