CIUDAD ACUNA, Coahuila — A team of police officers specializing in fighting cartel forces rescued a woman kidnapped by gunmen to demand a hefty ransom from her family.

The rescue took place at a roving checkpoint by members of Fuerza Coahuila, along the highway that connects this border city with the town of Zaragoza. Acuña is immediately south of Del Rio, Texas.

At the checkpoint, the police officers spotted a suspicious red vehicle from where they rescued a woman and managed to arrest the team of gunmen. Cops found the victim gagged and bound. She was placed in the rear part of the vehicle and was covered with blankets.

Law enforcement sources in Coahuila revealed to Breitbart Texas that they have detained several individuals as part of the ongoing investigation into the kidnapping, where they suspect the gunmen were extorting a hefty ransom out of the victim’s family. The victim has only been identified as a woman from the town of Zaragoza, however, authorities have not been able to determine if there is a motive other than ransom.

Fuerza Coahuila is an evolution of Los GATES, a special police force created to fight cartel armies like Los Zetas, occupying Coahuila for years.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.M. Martinez” from Coahuila.
