West Virginia state troopers rescued and bathed a one-year-old baby boy covered in vomit after they arrested his mother for an alleged DUI arrest.
Trooper B.R. Wood and Senior Trooper Derek Graham of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Department found the baby during a routine search of the vehicle when they pulled over his mother for DUI, Inside Edition reported.
After they arrested his mother, the troopers took the child covered in vomit with nothing but a diaper on to the police headquarters to give the baby a little tender loving care.
Graham was so appalled by the baby’s condition that his paternal instincts kicked in and decided to give the baby a bath.
“I mean, he had vomit all over him, just covered from head to toe, vomit,” Graham said in an interview with The Washington Post. “You could smell feces, urine. It was probably the most disgusting thing I’ve seen thus far in my law enforcement career involving a child, especially an infant. ”
Graham found a sink in the office, gave the baby a bubble bath, and wrapped him in a towel until Child Protective Services came to collect the child, The Bluefield-Daily Telegraph reported.
“He was the best little baby,” said Trooper Wood to The Bluefield Daily Telegraph. “He had just started to nod off when CPS [Child Protective Services] arrived.”
Wood said the baby is in the custody of a relative and under the supervision of CPS.
Police say the mother is facing a charge of DUI with a minor, which carries a penalty of up to 12 months in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
