U.S. Border Patrol agents took a previously deported criminal illegal alien into custody in New York after a local police officer stopped the man for a traffic violation. Agents determined the man had a violent criminal record and had re-entered the U.S. illegally after being deported.
Police officers in Leroy, New York, stopped Juan Rivas-Silva, 42, for a traffic violation on Monday, June 6. He presented a passport and an expired driver’s license, information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed.
The police officers called for Border Patrol agents to come to the scene and review the status of the foreign national. Agents conducted a background investigation from the scene and determined that Rivas-Silva, a Mexican citizen, had illegally re-entered the U.S. after having been previously deported. He was arrested and taken to the Border Patrol station for processing.
A further search into the illegal alien’s background revealed the man had a violent criminal history. His crimes, including felonies, were listed as burglary, domestic violence, assault and battery, and driving under the influence. Rivas-Silva admitted he illegally entered the U.S. in 1998 through California.
“The arrest of this individual highlights the cooperation between law enforcement agencies in bringing criminals to justice,” Rochester Station Patrol Agent in Charge Michael Werthman said in a written statement. “I commend our agents and the Leroy Police Department for their hard work and commitment to service.”
Rivas-Silva is being held without bond pending his deportation from the U.S. The discovery of this previously deported violent criminal in upstate New York reveals the abject failure of the federal government in exercising its constitutional duty to secure this country’s borders. Leroy, New York, is located about 40 miles south of the U.S. border with Canada.
