Feds Seize $1 Million in Meth and Weed Near Arizona Border

U.S. Border Patrol agents and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized nearly $1 million in drugs over the past five days in Arizona. The drugs were seized in four separate incidents from Friday through Tuesday.

Over $700,000 was seized by Border Patrol agents working in the Yuma Sector on Monday and Tuesday. The agents stopped an American citizen and his wife at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 on Monday, according to information provided to Breitbart Texas by CBP officials. The checkpoint is located east of the town of Yuma, Arizona.

The agents asked the man to move his vehicle to the secondary inspection station where a K-9 agent alerted to the scent of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed sixteen pounds of methamphetamine and thirty-five pounds of cocaine that were hidden in the vehicle’s rocker panel below the door. The drugs are estimated by officials to be valued at more than $440,000.

The following day, agents tracked a group of illegal aliens who had just entered the U.S. near Gila Bend. The agents tracked the group and eventually found seven men and one juvenile. The illegal aliens were being used as mules to smuggle nine bundles of marijuana. The marijuana is estimated to be worth $260,000 by officials. The illegal aliens were all Mexican nationals according to the CBP.

CBP officers in the Tucson sector also seized large amounts of marijuana over the weekend. A California woman was arrested on Saturday at the Port of San Luis as she attempted to re-enter the U.S. Agents found 375 pounds in the trunk of the 19-year-old woman’s Toyota sedan. The marijuana is estimated to be worth $187,500 by CBP officials. She was arrested and the vehicle and drugs were seized.

Other CBP officers working the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry in Douglas, Arizona, on Friday arrested a Douglas resident after the man allegedly smuggled 164 pounds of marijuana in his GMC pickup truck. A K-9 officer alerted to the scent of the marijuana during a secondary inspection of the vehicle. The drugs were found between the back cab wall and the vehicle’s camper. The $159,000 worth of marijuana was seized along with the vehicle. The man was arrested as well.

All of the suspects were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations for possible prosecution.
