Christie to Colorado, Washington State: ‘Get High Now While You Can — When I’m President, It’s Over’

On Thursday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ), a candidate for the 2016 Republican nomination, discussed the relaxed law regarding marijuana in Colorado and Washington State during the show’s “Center Seat” segment.

Christie told show panelist Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer the lack of enforcement of federal laws currently is reflective of the “lawlessness” of the Obama administration.

“It doesn’t differ one bit. It’s part of the lawlessness of this administration,” he said. “The fact is, this president only enforces the laws that he likes. So, if you don’t want to enforce the immigration laws because the president doesn’t like them you can be a sanctuary city and there’s no penalty. You don’t want to enforce the federal marijuana laws in Colorado and Washington — go ahead and get high.”

Christie warned that if he were elected, he would enforce those laws and bring an end to states circumventing federal laws regarding marijuana.

“As president, I would enforce all the laws just like when I was U.S. attorney,” Christie said. “We need somebody behind the desk in the Oval Office who knows what law and order is all about. I will enforce the law in this country whether I like it or not. If I don’t like it i go to Congress to try to get it changed. But I would not legalize drugs in this country. It is a pathway to ruin for our country. I’ve seen too many lives ruined by drugs. We don’t need more drugs in our country. We need to have less.”

“If I’m president no getting high in Denver or Seattle, Charles,” he added. “Get high now while you can. When I’m president it’s over.”
