During his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that he has “confidence” in special counsel Robert Mueller.
Sessions responded to a question on whether he has confidence in Mueller to conduct his investigation fairly by stating, “I have known Mr. Mueller over the years. He served 12 years as FBI Director. He — I knew him before that, and I have confidence in Mr. Mueller.”
He added, “I’m not going to discuss any hypotheticals or what might be a factual situation in the future that I’m not aware of today. Because I know nothing about the investigation. I have fully recused myself.”
Sessions further stated that he didn’t know if the president has confidence in Mueller and hasn’t talked to him about it.
Sessions concluded the exchange by saying that because he recused himself, it wouldn’t be “appropriate” for him to take any actions to try to have Mueller removed.
