'American Hustle,' 'Gravity' Dominate Oscar Noms, 'The Butler,' Oprah Winfrey Snubbed

A fictionalized tale spun from the ’70s Abscam sting and two astronauts lost in space dominated the morning’s Academy Award nominations.

Notably absent–the President Reagan-bashing Lee Daniels’ The Butler or its mega-star Oprah Winfrey.

Both American Hustle and Gravity snared 10 nominations while 12 Years a Slave grabbed 9 nominations.

Some of the larger snubs include nominations for Robert Redford (All Is Lost), Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and Joaquin Phoenix (Her). Another critical darling ignored by Oscar voters–the Trayvon Martin-esque drama Fruitvale Station.
