Friend of Woolwich Killer Pleads Guilty to Terror Charges

A friend of Michael Adebolajo, the Islamist extremist who killed Lee Rigby, has pleaded guilty to terror offences.

Ibrahim Hassan, who is also known as Abu Nusaybah, was arrested in May last year after appearing on television talking about his friendship with Adebolajo. He claimed that MI5 had secretly tried to turn and recruit Adebolajo before the murder.

Hassan pleaded guilty to disseminating a terrorist publication and encouraging terrorism. The publication in question is a recording of a speech by radical Islamist cleric Anwar al-Awlaki called “The Ruling on Insulting the Prophet”.

Co-defendant Shah Hussain also pleaded guilty to similar charges at the London Central Criminal Court.

Michael Adebolajo, along with Michael Adebowale, ran down and hacked Fusilier Lee Rigby to death in May last year. Adebolajo was last month given a life sentence with no chance of parole, while Adebowale was given a life sentence with a 45-year minimum term.

Hassan and Hussain will be sentenced on 2 May.
