A group of 10 suspected illegal immigrants, including one juvenile, has been discovered hiding in the boots of Maserati cars en route from the Italian factory to a dealership in Surrey.

The stowaways, who police believe are from Vietnam, were found by Surrey Roads Police when they intercepted the luxury sports cars outside the Maranello Maserati Egham dealership yesterday afternoon following reports.

The police tweeted pictures of the cars showing shoes, clothing and other possessions inside one of the boots.

It is not yet clear how or where the group gained entry to the new vehicles which had protective covers over their bodywork. Nor is it known how long they had been hidden, but the driver was not arrested.

Nine of the group were taken to the UK Visa and Immigration Centre in Dover. The child was taken into police custody as a place of safety pending assistance from social services to help.

The cars were reported by the Daily Mail  to be Maserati Quattroporte’s worth £69,235.
