Jan. 5 (UPI) — Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said he was too “stunned” by a brutal season-ending loss to discuss his future with the franchise.
Jackson made the comments at his postgame news conference Sunday in Pittsburgh.
The two-time MVP threw three touchdown passes and put the Ravens in position to win with a field goal as time expired, but rookie Tyler Loop missed the 44-yard attempt, giving the Pittsburgh Steelers a 26-24 victory and the AFC North division title.
“We did all that and came up short,” Jackson, who threw three touchdown passes against the Steelers, told reporters. “Devastated. Furious. I’m everywhere with it right now.”
Jackson, who signed a five-year, $260 million extension with the Ravens in 2023, was recently criticized through a column written in the Baltimore Sun, which claimed he fell asleep in meetings and questioned his work ethic, maturity and relationship with coach John Harbaugh.
Last week, Jackson reaffirmed his commitment to the Ravens and said he has a good relationship with Harbaugh, in the wake of that article. But on Sunday, Jackson was noncommittal when asked about the same topics.
“We just lost a game, a divisional game, a game to put us in the playoffs,” Jackson said. “I’m not even thinking about that right now, to be honest with you. I’m still caught up in what just happened. That’s not my focus right now.”
Jackson, 28, completed 63.6% of his throws, the lowest rate since his 2018 rookie campaign, for 2,549 yards, 21 scores and seven interceptions over 13 starts this season. He also ran for 349 yards and two scores, the lowest rushing totals of his career. Jackson missed four games this season due to various injuries.
He also declined to address John Harbaugh’s future, when asked Sunday if he thinks he should return as head coach of the Ravens in 2026.
“You’re asking me about next year,” Jackson said. “I’m so caught up in what just happened [Sunday], I can’t focus on that right now. I just told you. I’m stunned right now.
“I’m still trying to process what’s going on.”
Harbaugh, who owns a 180-113 record as Ravens coach, said he wants another shot with his players in 2026-27. The Ravens won at least 10 games in six of seven seasons before their 8-9 campaign in 2025-26. Harbaugh, who led the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2012, went to the playoffs in 12 of his first 17 seasons with the AFC North franchise.
Jackson owns a 3-5 record in the playoffs since joining the Ravens as the No. 32 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Harbaugh’s Ravens went 10-5 in the postseason from 2008 through 2014, including their 2012-13 Super Bowl winning run.
