Feb. 19 (UPI) — Manhunter, The Last Action Hero and Robocop 2 star Tom Noonan has died at the age of 74, according to two of his long-time friends.
Variety said no cause of death has been publicly disclosed.
“It’s with great sadness that I share the passing of TOM NOONAN (April 12, 1951 – February 14, 2026). Tom’s indelible performance as Frankenstein in THE MONSTER SQUAD is a highlight of my modest filmography, doubtless aided by the masterful make-up designed by Stan Winston, sculpted by Tom Woodruff Jr., and applied by Zoltan Elek,” filmmaker Fred Dekker wrote on Facebook Wednesday.
“Having been knocked out by his performance as Francis Dollarhyde in Michael Mann’s MANHUNTER, I desperately wanted Tom to read the script and consider the part, but I knew that nabbing him was probably a long shot,” Dekker added. “Nonetheless, he agreed to meet me at his Hollywood apartment to discuss the role. I knew the first thing a serious actor would want to know was that my vision for Frankenstein was serious and not “campy.” Luckily, this was the case.”
People.com said actress Karen Sillas, who worked with Noonan on his play What Happened Was…, as well as the 1994 movie based on it, also confirmed the news of Noonan’s death.
“What a privilege and crazy fun it was working with this man and calling him my friend to the end,” she said. “May his Legacy continue to shine on.”
Noonan’s other credits include Heat, Synecdoche, New York, The House of the Devil, Willie & Phil, Heaven’s Gate, 12 Monkeys and Wonderstruck.
