NFL receiver Rondale Moore dies at age 25

Feb. 23 (UPI) — NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore died over the weekend at his Indiana home, according to authorities. He was 25.

Moore was found by emergency services at his New Albany, Ind., home at about 5:57 p.m. EST Saturday and transported to Baptist Health Floyd where he was pronounced dead minutes later, Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin said in a statement.

A forensic autopsy was performed and family notification has been made, Tomlin said.

Though no cause of death was named, New Albany Police said he was found dead from a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound in the garage of his home.

“We are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking news of Rondale Moore’s sudden passing,” the Minnesota Vikings said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with Rondale’s family and friends during this devastating time.”

Moore signed with Minnesota in March 2025, but suffered a knee injury during preseason play that sidelined him for the rest of the season.

His career was hobbled by injuries over the last few years, with 2023 being the last season he played in the NFL.

During his three seasons in the NFL, Moore played 39 games, during which he made 135 receptions for 1,201 yards.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said he was “devastated” by the news of Moore’s death, calling the young athlete “a humble, soft-spoken and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots.”

“We are all heartbroken by the fact he won’t continue to live out his NFL dream, and we won’t all have a chance to watch him flourish,” O’Connell said in a statement.
