“Here we go! Super excited about @hillaryclinton running for President!!” gushed California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom on Twitter Sunday following Hillary Clinton’s tepid Presidential announcement. The message was one of many strong reactions pronounced by California’s statewide leaders–all Democrats. However, Gov. Jerry Brown was not among them.
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer beat Newsom to the punch Sunday with the start of a prolific series of tweets, beginning with:
In 1920 women got the right to vote. One hundred years later, let’s make sure there’s a woman in the White House!
— Barbara Boxer (@BarbaraBoxer) April 12, 2015
Despite many questions over Hillary’s accomplishments, Boxer posted:
Let’s elect a President who has excelled at every position she’s ever held from First Lady to Senator to Secretary of State. — Barbara Boxer (@BarbaraBoxer) April 12, 2015
Newsom posted the following Hillary fundraising message late Sunday, then retweeted a message from the former Secretary of State:
Let’s help @HillaryClinton get started — please donate $5 or more by clicking on this link https://t.co/RwDwNGb5hq #hillaryclinton #2016 — Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) April 12, 2015
Noticeably absent was any post from California Governor Jerry Brown on Hillary’s announcement.
While many say that Brown, a former repeat presidential candidate will not run, some have mentioned his name as a potential challenger in the 2016 Democratic Primary.
California Attorney Kamala Harris, a declared candidate for U.S. Senate to replace Boxer, also neglected to post regarding Clinton’s candidacy.
Former Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Carly Fiorina is expected to run for President, and has been very vocal in her condemnation of Clinton’s record. On Monday, Fiorina told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski on the Morning Joe that Hillary has “had a lot of very impressive titles, but a position is just a position. It’s all about what you do in it, and think her time in the position of Secretary of State is demonstrably one that lacks accomplishment, but that also has some real blemishes on it.”
In contrast, California “Ready for Hillary” Finance Consultant David Wolf posted:
So proud to have been on the Ready for Hillary team as California Finance Consultant. Great teamwork! #readyforhillary — David Wolf (@Davewolf67) April 9, 2015
