On August 11, a homeowner under attack in Lorain, Ohio, was able to retrieve a handgun hidden by his front door and kill the alleged intruder.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m.

According to Cleveland.com, the homeowner—who remains unnamed—said he was trying to enter his house through the front door when he was allegedly attacked by 34-year-old Glenn Smith Jr. The homeowner had been on “a trip abroad.”

The homeowner said he and Smith fought, both ending up in the house together. The homeowner then retrieved a gun and “fired several shots.” Police arrived to find Smith lying on the floor and found”several items on him that indicated he was trying to break into the man’s house.

Smith was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said “witnesses corroborated the resident’s story.”
