Breitbart News Daily: Brett M. Decker On the TPP

Asked if he thought the TPP was covered in depth enough last night, Bowing to Beijing author Brett M. Decker says there were some “fun talking points” during the Fox Business GOP debate, but a far deeper discussion was needed.

Referring to a photo of the incredibly complex bill printed out on a hundred pounds of paper, and stacked six feet high on the desk of Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Decker joked that it was big enough to serve as a wall along the southern border of the United States.

“There is so much stuff in there, and how dangerous a lot of it is – not only for our relationship with China, but giving up sovereignty, things where Congress and the President give up power to international organizations on trade and laws that apply inside our country,” Decker said during a Wednesday morning appearance on Breitbart News Daily. “Anything that’s that big, and isn’t read first, is just going to be a wish list for people that want to weaken our international position.”

“There are a ton of different stipulations in there related to emissions and different global standards on environmental things,” Decker continued. “Well, there’s no way to implement that kind of thing without a mechanism outside of U.S. control, so it just puts the camel’s nose under the tent… and as we’ve seen, once you do that, there’s really no way of reeling it back.”

Decker sees the TPP as another step on the long path away from fidelity to the U.S. Constitution. “You know, I don’t think the Founders would recognize anything about this country,” he said. “The whole secrecy around this thing… as much as 20 years I’ve been in this town, it shocked me how you couldn’t see this thing, it couldn’t be public.  The public wasn’t allowed to see it before it was voted on and approved. Is that really what this country’s about, where we can have this ‘Great Wall of Paper’ in a new law, and the public isn’t allowed to know what it is?”

Decker, a former editor of the Wall Street Journal in Asia, wrote Bowing to Beijing with former Senate Foreign Relations Committee counsel William C. Triplett II to warn about the rising economic, military, and ideological threat from China, and how the pliant attitude of the Obama Administration has encouraged further Chinese aggression.

As he noted at the conclusion of his Breitbart News Daily interview, China moves against perceived weakness, and Barack Obama has never given them any other perception, in either foreign or domestic policy.
