Following his speech to the nation on terrorism, President Barack Obama is putting on his black tie and heading to the Kennedy Center to honor filmmaker George Lucas, among others.

If Obama cannot hang out with Hollywood celebrities, the terrorists win.

From the Washington Post:

President Obama’s address to the nation on Sunday night will force him to be late to the 38th annual Kennedy Center Honors performance celebrating the achievement of five artists.

The president attended a White House reception at 5 p.m. for Honorees Carole King, George Lucas, Seiji Ozawa, Cicely Tyson and Rita Moreno. After his 8 p.m. address, he is expected to go to the arts center for the remainder of the show. First Lady Michelle Obama will attend the Honors performance as planned. The show will be broadcast on CBS on Dec. 29.

Obama’s remarks to the Kennedy Center honorees earlier in the evening included plenty of punch lines, but no reference to terror:

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you so much. Please, everybody, have a seat, have a seat. Have a seat and welcome to the White House. This is a good-looking group. (Laughter.)…

Not a moment of silence, not a thought for the victims, not a word about the challenges facing the nation–nothing.
