Dr. Deborah De Sousa Owens – education leader at the Coalition of African-American Pastors (CAAP) – discusses her op-ed at Breitbart News that explains how the secular movement has been fostered by the political class and is undermining American values.

During an interview with Breitbart News executive chairman and host of Breitbart News Daily Stephen K. Bannon, Owens says the nation is already at a crisis with the undermining of American values by political elites.

“We have to step up to the plate and demand that they not take our values for granted,” she explained. “We can’t continue on this path that we’re on.”

Asked by Bannon about her recommendations for a solution to the problem, Owens replied:

We’ve got to restore the belief in family, the belief in life…life is sacred. We’ve got to restore traditional marriage…we should do things to encourage and support the nuclear family – one man, one woman, and children that are raised by a mother and a father.

Owens said Christians and people of faith need to come together to shore up traditional marriage despite the Supreme Court’s ruling that legalized same-sex marriage.

When asked about Planned Parenthood’s continued taxpayer funding in the recent omnibus spending bill and whether the Republican Party is the “appropriate apparatus” to represent American values, Owens said, “We can’t depend on the Democrat Party,” but acknowledged the Republican Party is divided.

“We need to unite,” she continued. “We need to unite on those core common values that make us the Republican Party…we have to find a leader who will be able to do that.”
