Florida House Passes Open and Campus Carry

The Florida House passed legislation allowing concealed carry permit holders to openly carry and to carry their guns on college campuses for self-defense.

The legislation is contained in two separate bills, and Democrats opposed them both.

According to WCTV, Republicans argued that the bills “protect gun owners’ constitutional rights” and increase safety. In fact, the ability for women to defend themselves on college campuses has been the driving the force behind campus carry in state after state during the past few years. But Democrats opposed the Republican arguments, claiming that “the bills would create public safety risks.”

Breitbart News previously reported that campus carry has been the law of the land in Colorado since 2003. And similar dire warnings of increased risks to public safety never materialized into anything tangible. Instead, Colorado’s tenure with campus carry has seen no mass shootings and no crimes by permit holders.

WCTV also reported that the Florida House passed legislation that will “allow lawmakers to carry concealed weapons onto their chamber’s floor and in committee meetings.”
