Vice President Joe Biden used the California Democratic convention stage to congratulate 2016 presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton for winning Saturday’s South Carolina Democratic primary.

Biden joined the around 3,000 California Democrats gathered for the two-day event. His congratulations come despite troubles in rallying enthusiasm behind Clinton at last May’s convention in Anaheim, and a strong turnout by supporters of Clinton’s opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

Union leader RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of National Nurses United (NNU), posted photos of hordes of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders supporters flooding the convention. NNU has endorsed Sanders.

Outgoing Sen. Barbara Boxer and former Clinton administration Secretary of Labor Robert Reich were also on the speakers’ list, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Reich is backing Sanders, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

At last May’s California Democratic Party Convention, signs of any enthusiasm for Clinton — considered by many as their presumptive nominee for president — were noticeably absent. Leftist darling Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) was a key speaker.

Party democrats voted on endorsements in other races. Leftist billionaire Tom Steyer spoke, as he prepares a possible 2018 run for governor of California.

Even Republican candidate for United States Senate Duf Sundheim made an appearance at the convention.

Biden is scheduled to introduce Lady Gaga at Sunday’s Oscar ceremony in Hollywood. The two are teaming up to promote the White House “It’s On Us” campaign regarding sexual assault on American campuses.
