Micheal Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety is funding a push to bring failed California gun controls to Maine.

The goal of the push is a November ballot initiative that allows Everytown to circumvent the state legislature and put universal background checks in place.

According to Bangor Daily News, the push for universal background checks in Maine “raised nearly $1.3 million from 2015 through March’s end, with 95 percent of that coming from Everytown.” The 2014 universal background check initiative in Washington state was likewise funded largely by big money donors like Everytown and a smattering of individual millionaires and billionaires.

The current push for the Nevada universal background check initiative is being funded the same way.

It is interesting to note that while universal background checks are advertised as ways of keeping Americans safe, they have proven to be demonstrable failures when it comes to stopping committed attackers. For example, such checks are the law of the land in California, where they failed to prevent the high-profile Santa Barbara shooting in May 2014 and the more recent San Bernardino terror attack in December 2015.

Colorado also has universal background checks, and they had two of the most high-profile shootings of 2015, with the Halloween Day attack — three innocents allegedly shot and killed by Noah Harpman — and the November 27 attack at the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood.

Universal background checks have long been the law of the land in Paris, France, where two armed terrorists killed 12 in a January 7, 2015, attack on Charlie Hebdo headquarters and more armed terrorists killed 130 at a concert venue and other locations on November 13.
