On December 6 Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) tweeted that national reciprocity is a way to tell “liberal elites” we will keep our guns, and our right to self-defense.

His tweet comes hours before his national reciprocity legislation, Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, goes to the House Floor for a vote.

Hudson tweeted, “The American people are sick of liberal elites in New York and San Francisco trying to tell us we don’t have the right to defend ourselves and  our families.”

He used the tweet to go directly at leftist, elitist claims that national reciprocity will increase crime. After all, national reciprocity is about allowing law-abiding citizens to carry guns across state lines for self-defense, not about arming criminals. Hudson said, [National reciprocity] won’t increase crime. It doesn’t override state gun laws. It won’t arm criminals. Americans aren’t falling for these straw man arguments – that’s why 73% support concealed carry reciprocity.”

On December 4 Breitbart News reported the confusing and cumbersome concealed carry situations that Hudson’s bill will fix:

A concealed carry permit holder in Kentucky driving to St. Louis for Christmas is not able to carry his firearm with him while in Illinois. In fact, he is not even permitted to have his gun in his vehicle, even though he has a concealed carry permit from Kentucky, and this is because Illinois only recognizes its own carry permit. The NRA-ILA reports Illinois state law on gun possession: “It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm in any vehicle or concealed on or about the person, except on one’s land or in one’s abode or fixed place of business, without a license.”

And California currently refuses to recognize any concealed carry permit besides its own, forcing law-abiding residents of Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona, to enter the state defenseless, just as residents of Kentucky and Indiana are forced to do when entering Illinois. Hudson’ legislation corrects this by guaranteeing the Second Amendment right to bear arms is intact.
