A father eating at a Popeye’s restaurant shot and killed a robbery suspect to protect his family.

The incident occurred Wednesday just before 9 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.

According to Fox 29, 32-year-old Carlos Molina was eating with his family when 19-year-old Andres Herrera walked into the Popeye’s and pointed a gun at him. Herrera “demanded his property.”

Molina assured Herrera he had spent all his money in buying dinner for his family and asked the armed man to please allow his family to leave to unharmed. During the exchange more of Molina’s family members emerged from the restroom and Herrera pointed his gun at them, at which time Molina pulled his own gun and shot Herrera several times.

Molina has a handgun license. Officers responding to the scene described the shooting as an act of self-defense carried out for a third person.

On January 12, 2017, the New York Times editorial board opined,“The grim truth is that concealed-carry permit holders are rarely involved in stopping crime.” Mr. Molina’s actions at the Popeye’s restaurant in San Antonio are only the latest refutation of the New York Times‘ claim.
