Republican leadership in the House successfully added a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) alert for illegal aliens attempting to buy guns to the Democrats’ gun control bill on Wednesday.

Yahoo News reported that the Democrats passed H.R. 8 — the bill criminalizing private gun sales — by a vote of 240–190. The bill would not have prevented a single mass shooting in the last ten years, but it makes a criminal out of someone who sells a gun to a lifelong neighbor, or someone who sells a gun to a friend he has known since childhood.

Politico’s Jake Sherman reported that Republicans were able to use a “motion to recommit” to add an alert for ICE to the bill.

WSB Atlanta’s Jamie Dupree tweeted:

As Breitbart News reported, the Democrats had previously rejected a Republican proposal to alert ICE if an illegal alien is discovered via a background check for a firearm.
