After Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed the “heartbeat bill” into law Tuesday, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), a 2020 presidential hopeful, shared his thoughts and said he will fight to protect Roe v. Wade because “abortion is health care.”

“Georgia’s ‘fetal heartbeat’ law is an all-out-attack on women that will strip them of rights before many even know they are pregnant,” Booker said in a tweet Wednesday. “I will fight to protect Roe v. Wade—abortion is health care”:

Included in the tweet was a video that showed Booker speaking at a recent event where he discussed Roe v. Wade and its importance to him.

“I believe very strongly in Roe v. Wade as the law of the land,” Booker said to a small crowd of his supporters. “I believe that we should actually codify it in law through the legislature so nobody, no matter who you appoint to the Judiciary branch of government, can ever overturn it.”

In the attached video, Booker also reiterated that he believes women should have control over their own bodies.

“I will fight to protect a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions. I will fight to make sure that a woman’s body is under the purview of that woman and not a bunch of politicians in Washington or in a state capitol.”
