Abby Finkenauer Endorses Joe Biden to Unite Country, Rebuild Middle Class

Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA), a swing district Democrat, endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden Thursday as the politician who is able to not only rebuild the American middle class, but unite the country through “common sense” and “dignity” as well.

Rep. Finkenauer became the first Iowa congressional Democrat to endorse a presidential candidate ahead of the Iowa caucuses. She will make eight campaign stops with Biden during his tour through Iowa.

Congresswoman Finkenauer, a former Iowa representative, said in a statement Thursday:

I was raised in a small town in rural Iowa, where my family instilled in me the importance of hard work, caring for others, and and most importantly the value of public service. I take those values with me every day in Washington, where I made improving the lives of Iowa’s working families my top priority.

Rep. Finkenauer claimed that former Vice President Biden could help rebuild the American middle class as well as unite the country. Her endorsement of Biden follows after she voted for both articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. The articles of impeachment charge Trump with abusing the office of the presidency and obstructing Congress.

Finkenaeur continued:

We need a President who reflects those same values and will make America’s working families their top priority. Joe Biden’s character, record, and commitment to rebuilding the backbone of the country — the middle class — is what Iowa and this country needs. Across the country, and especially in Iowa, too many families are being left behind our current president. It’s time that we have leadership in the White House who believes in the value of not only uniting a divided Congress, but uniting our country through common sense, dignity, and respect.

Finkenauer also cited Biden’s proposals for increased infrastructure spending and helping to pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA), or Obamacare, as two of the reasons she endorsed the former vice president. She added that Biden understands the big issues surrounding the “kitchen tables across the country.”

“You can’t divide rural America and our cities. They do require different attention and different plans, but if rural America is forgotten, then our cities are also hurt, and vice versa. He’s understood that from the beginning,” Rep. Finkenauer said.
