Joe Biden took to Twitter on Thursday to declare President Trump “unfit to lead” the U.S. through the coronavirus crisis, but a majority of Americans disagree with the Democrat front runner.

Sharing a New York Times article attacking Trump, Biden wrote, “The words of a president matter, and Donald Trump has used his to downplay COVID-19 and mislead the American people. He is unfit to lead us through this crisis.

But a new poll finds 55 percent of Americans approve of the president’s handling of the crisis, while 43 percent disapprove.

That’s a near reversal from last week, where the ABC News/Ipsos poll found 54 percent of respondents disapproved of Trump’s actions, while 43 percent approved.

That survey comes on the heels of one from Survey USA, which found 51 percent of American adults approve of Trump’s management of the crisis, while 46 percent do not.

Trump has also made gains on the notion that he is more concerned about “his own re-election” than “the public’s health.

Last week, 56 percent thought Trump was more self-interested, while 34 percent thought he was concerned about Americans. This week, that gap has shrunk nine points, to 50 percent-37 percent.

Overall, Survey USA found a plurality of Americans have “confidence” in Trump, 46 percent to 42 percent saying they have “no confidence.”
