A Spokane County, Washington, homeowner shot and wounded an intrusion suspect Saturday night, after finding the suspect in the kitchen using the microwave.

The Cheney Free Press reported that the homeowner was upstairs with his wife when he heard noise downstairs just before midnight.

When the homeowner grabbed a shotgun and went downstairs to investigate he found the suspect, 29-year-old Kenneth B. Caldero, in the kitchen using the microwave.

Caldero said he was doing the dishes.

KHQ reports the homeowner asked Caldero to leave the house, yet Caldero not only remained but allegedly moved toward the steps, as if going upstairs. The homeowner then feared for his family’s safety and fired a shot, which did not hit Caldero.

Caldero then allegedly walked toward the homeowner and another shot rang out, this time hitting Caldero in the leg.

He fled the home, but was apprehended and treated for his injuries. Deputies noted that Caldero was allegedly “armed with a knife” and that he told them he thought the home belonged to a friend.
