NFL Players, Personnel: Incognito 'Reprehensible,' Martin 'Coward'

Though NFL players and personnel agreed that the alleged actions of Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito were reprehensible, they have also called out offensive lineman Jonathan Martin for being a “coward” who did not stand up for himself.

NFL player Antrel Rolle emphasized the Martin, who left the Dolphins last week, needed to act like a grown man. Martin reportedly left the Dolphins after a prank, which was supposedly the last straw for him. Incognito reportedly harassed Martin for some time and sent him racially-charged and threatening messages.

“First of all, know something like that would never, ever happen to myself, because I wouldn’t allow it to happen,” Rolle, the New York Giants safety, said. “… You know, at this level, you’re a man. You’re not a little boy. You’re not a freshman in college. You’re a man. So I think everything has its limits. So there’s no way that another man is gonna make me pay for something that I choose not to pay for.”

Rolle said Martin could come back to the league and become a “grown-a–man.”

“Hopefully he’s able to bounce back and recover from all that has happened and understand it, and take awareness of, you know, that, you’re a grown-a- man,” Rolle said. “You need to stand up for yourself.”

Other NFL personnel members have said that though Incognito was reprehensible, Martin may have been a “coward” for conducting himself and handling the situation the way he did.
