DePaul, 175 Other Teams Eliminated; 175 Alive for NCAA Title

Josh Hart, Eli Cain

Breitbart Sports asked the last question to Billy Garrett Jr. as a player for DePaul University, as his hopes of making March Madness died, just like players from 175 other teams. The simplified conference-by-conference list of the 175 teams alive now shows the day of their next conference playoff game, and the chance they will make the tournament if they do not win the automatic bid.

The 175 teams removed from this list have been eliminated from their conference tournament and none of the 135 experts at Bracket Matrix believe they would be selected on Selection Sunday as an at-large team.

For the 175 teams listed below that are still alive, the date of their next tournament game is listed followed by the percent of the Bracket Matrix experts that agree they will make the tournament even without winning their tournament.

Vermont and UT Arlington are the two teams that most experts say will make the tournament if they win their conference, but experts are split on putting them as a top 12 seed that would indicate they can make the tournament without that title.

All 135 experts now place Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee and Wake Forest in the tournament.

The biggest win of the night came from a reeling Xavier team, which defeated DePaul in a crucial game to steady their NCAA resume after losing Edmond Sumner, one of the biggest losses in college basketball this year according to Value Add Basketball.

DePaul’s Garrett suffers from sickle cell disease and his grandfather was the first African-American player in the Big Ten.

In the last question allowed by the Big East, Breitbart Sports closed the evening at Madison Square Garden by asking, “Billy, you finish your career with 432 assists, and not many 6-foot-6 guys can do that. A lot of assists this year were to guys who are coming back next year. What do you feel your leadership did to advance the players who will be here and carry on the team?

“Hopefully I set a good example for those guys, on the court and off the court as far as the work is concerned and everything you’ve got to do to be a good player. So hopefully – I’m confident with those guys and everything the coaching staff gives … and we’ve got some great players coming in,” Garrett said. “So I’ve got confidence in the program … I’m going to be sad I won’t be part of it, but I’ll be around.”
